"Dios Hizo Crecer" - Meet Church Planter José Mazariego

October 24, 2017

By
José Mazariego, Tier 1 Church Planter, New City Network

Yo planté la semilla en sus corazones, y Apolos la regó, pero fue Dios quien la hizo crecer." 1 Corintios 3:6

I planted, Apollos watered; But God gave the increase. 1 Corinthians 3:6

My name is José Mazariego. I am 37 years old and originally from El Salvador. My wife, Andrea, and I have been married for 15 years and have three children: Gulliermo, 19, Ariana, 9, and Marco, 3.

I met the Lord at the age of 11 when my neighbors at the time noticed the problems that my parents had at home and started taking my brothers and me to church. Since that time, there was always something in my heart that made me feel passionate about serving God and his work. I wanted to be in the church, to pray, to serve, and to seek God.

In 1997, I was invited to a youth retreat by one of the church's pastors when I was 17 years old. God began to speak to me at this retreat and confirm through His word and the different messages what He wanted me to do. He wanted me to dedicate my life to the ministry; that's how God chose me and called me.

From that day until today I have struggled with many things in order to faithfully follow His call, but the desire to remain steadfast led me to be always involved in all kinds of ministries—especially evangelism. My family came to the United States of America nine years ago and settled in Virginia. We came with the desire to plant a church, but I didn’t know how or where. We decided to plant in the city of Dumfries because, although there are many churches in the area, not all have healthy doctrine. This burdened my heart to plant a church in the area; a church centered on the gospel.

The second aspect that motivated us to plant this church is the increase of the Hispanic population in the United States. In Dumfries, 26% of the population speaks Spanish and many people there do not speak English at all. That is why we feel that God is pushing us and supporting us to reach these people in their language so we can continue with the Great Commission (Matthew 28: 19-20).

The Bible is the Word inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), which means everything to me because this is the voice, the thoughts, and heart of God given to mankind.
For me the word of God is my manual of morality, faith, conduct, and it teaches me how to live. I ask each of you who have taken the time to read these simple and brief words to pray for us that God's sovereignty would hold us firm, and we would complete the work He has sent us to do for His glory.

Amen! Dumfries would be a great location for a MBC campus; may God's will be done! Spreading the Word of God, giving Him all praise, glory & honor. God bless you Jose'
