Discipleship Group Leaders

'The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."

2 Timothy 2:2

Mature Christian believers can have a vital role in guiding and serving as examples to others. At MBC, we intentionally do this through discipleship groups. Group leaders meet growing Christians where they are, develop relationships, and help lead them to their next spiritual steps. They encourage, challenge and help equip growing disciples – even as they, too, continue to maturely spiritually. They challenge those disciples to ultimately become disciple makers.

Jesus is our perfect example of this. He met people where they were, and brought them into smaller groups to grow in their faith.

Leading a group is a tremendous responsibility, but comes with many rewards.

Discipleship Group Leaders at Montgomery County

Discipleship Groups are focused around a regional structure. The purpose of these groups is for people to connect in groups close to where they live so they can meet throughout the week and impact the community around them.   Our leaders should have the time to commit to setting the example for living out a life of discipleship.  This includes a strong personal walk with the Lord and a willingness to prioritize their life to be in community with those they lead.  Our leaders should also have a desire to encourage their group to engage with the community around them to make a Gospel impact.

Leadership Opportunities

Each region will have 4 distinct “leadership roles” that will help a region move forward in its mission to impact our communities for Christ:

Discipleship Leader - The discipleship leader will be responsible for pouring into a group for the purpose of helping members within the group to grow spiritually. Group time will include Bible study, prayer, and encouragement for how members will pursue applying the truth learned to their lives. In addition, leaders will be equipped to raise up leaders to “send them out” and lead new groups. Training and a coach are provided. We do ask that those applying to lead be recommended by the leader of the group they are currently in. Ideally, all those applying to lead should have been part of a MBC Discipleship group.

Discipleship Coach – The discipleship coach will be responsible for spiritually investing in, caring for and resourcing the discipleship group leaders within a region. Every discipleship coach would ideally have 2-4 discipleship group leaders that they are responsible for. Those interested in coaching should have experience as discipleship group leaders first.

Outreach Coach – The outreach coach is responsible for finding and facilitating service opportunities that the discipleship groups in a region can invest in. This role is important as we seek to fulfill the great commission and bring he gospel to the communities that we live in.

Admin – Each region will have an administrator whose responsibilities include many of the logistical items going on within the regions. This could include anything from the connect process of getting people plugged into discipleship groups to interfacing with the discipleship and outreach coaches to plan events.
