Dr. Gordon Johnson
Gordon and his wife Grace, had been doing ministry together for over 70 years! Grace recently passed away at the age of 91 (Sept 2018) after a long legacy of faithfulness to her Lord. As a young married couple, they were prepared to serve as Bible teachers in Nigeria, but through a series of events, the Lord instead placed them at the Rio Grande Bible Institute (RGBI) on the US/Mexico border. Gordon began as a Spanish/English professor, while Grace taught piano and led the other English-speaking missionary ladies. During his years at RGBI, Gordon became the Academic Dean (1968-81), then President (1981-95) and now President Emeritus. Traveling to over 17 Central and South American countries, he has impacted thousands of Latino leaders for Christ through his teaching, writing and counseling ministries. After fifty-four years of classroom teaching and extensive travel, he continues his ministry to Latino pastors and leaders by writing the ‘Message of the Cross’; an exegetical monthly study sent to over 1600 English and Spanish speaking leaders and missionaries. Gordon has also published 11 books—4 in English and 7 in Spanish. Gordon and Grace have four daughters and fifteen grandchildren.
Prayer Request: Continued wisdom and grace for Gordon's writing ministry to Latino leaders, pastors and missionaries, and for Gordon as does life and ministry now without his beloved wife.
MBC Missionary History: Gordon is our longest serving missionary, and was the speaker at the first missionary conference hosted by MBC in 1962. He became the first missionary supported by MBC, and has enjoyed a fruitful relationship with MBC ever since.
